A MongoDB Case Study
RMS, the world’s largest catastrophe modeling company, built RMS(one)—the insurance industry’s first cloud-based, open, real-time risk management platform—to centralize diverse, high-resolution catastrophe and exposure data for enterprise-wide decision making. The challenge was to securely store and serve massively variable client attributes at extreme scale (hundreds of terabytes and trillions of documents) while enabling real-time analytics for underwriting and capital planning.
RMS chose MongoDB’s flexible document model and horizontally scalable, secure architecture to power RMS(one); the platform already stores more than 100 billion documents per year and is designed to scale to trillions. This enabled rapid development, consistent high performance and secure access to a single source of risk analytics, helping insurers improve underwriting, portfolio management and capital efficiency.
