Novo Nordisk cuts clinical study report writing time by 90% with MongoDB

Novo Nordisk, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, faced a challenge in accelerating its lengthy and manual process for creating clinical study reports (CSRs), which are critical for drug approvals and could take up to 19 weeks to produce. To scale its operations and digitize drug development, the company sought a solution to streamline production and reduce errors, turning to MongoDB and its MongoDB Atlas platform.

Using MongoDB Atlas to power a tool called NovoScribe, which leverages large language models and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), Novo Nordisk created a system that breaks text into reusable modular phrases. This MongoDB solution reduced CSR writing times by 90%, allowing the company to manage its workload with just three staff instead of 42 and significantly cut error rates while gaining positive feedback from regulators.
