Mountain Warehouse runs 25 microservices on MongoDB to power offline-first retail apps

Mountain Warehouse, the UK's leading outdoor retailer, faced challenges empowering its store staff due to poor in-store Wi-Fi connectivity. They needed to provide shop floor teams with reliable mobile apps for tasks like checking stock and prices without relying on constant network access, ensuring real-time data accuracy. This led them to vendor MongoDB and its platform, MongoDB Atlas, to build an offline-first solution.

Using MongoDB Atlas with Atlas Device Sync, Mountain Warehouse built offline-first Android applications like Product Checker and Stock Count. These apps sync data reliably even with patchy connectivity, allowing staff to access real-time product information and manage inventory directly on the shop floor. The solution from MongoDB has moved operational tasks away from the till, empowering staff with 25 microservices and applications that improve customer service and in-store efficiency.
