MongoDB helps IHS Markit achieve up to 250x Higher Performance for Data Delivery Service

IHS Markit, a global leader in information and analytics, needed to modernize its Data Delivery Service as data volumes and customer demands grew. Their legacy relational database required costly schema generation for diverse, changing JSON-like sources and could not reliably meet performance SLAs or scale for large historical time-series data.

IHS Markit migrated to MongoDB’s flexible document model and a 4-shard, multi-site cluster, managed with Ops Manager and MongoDB Compass, eliminating schema transformations and boosting developer productivity. The results were dramatic: reads up to 250x faster, writes 10x faster, the database now uses only 35% of prior storage, and the platform can ingest a GB in under 4 seconds and serve it in under 2.5 seconds—enabling better SLAs, easier scaling, and new revenue-generating services.
