Leroy Merlin - Customer Case Study

Leroy Merlin Italy, a major home‑improvement retailer with 49 stores and an online catalogue of ~87,000 products across 1,000 families, faced a growing challenge: its traditional SQL system was too rigid to handle diverse product attributes, rapid catalogue growth and frequent updates. Rebuilding the website in 2010 required a way to load and manage large volumes of varied product data quickly and accurately without impractical manual work.

Working with Byte‑Code, Leroy Merlin migrated to MongoDB on AWS, using a schema‑less document model and a visual rule engine to model product data, eliminate null fields and simplify updates. The platform delivered order‑of‑magnitude performance improvements, allowed a small team to manage the catalogue without a DBA, and now serves over 2 million monthly visitors and 20 million product attributes, enabling scalable, cost‑effective growth and future e‑commerce plans.
