How EG Built a Modern, Event-Driven Architecture with MongoDB to Power Digital Transformation

EG (formerly Estates Gazette) is the UK’s leading commercial property data service, moving from a 150‑year print publisher into a data‑driven technology business. Faced with massive, multi‑structured property datasets and the need to deliver richer analytics, faster time‑to‑market, and always‑on availability, the company needed a flexible, developer‑friendly platform to support rapid product delivery.

EG implemented a pod‑based, event‑driven architecture with MongoDB at its core, using a JavaScript/Node.js stack and AWS SNS/SQS for data distribution so each pod maintains a local, up‑to‑date dataset. The result: a 50x increase in releases (now 50–60 deployments per month), improved uptime with self‑healing replica sets, faster development via flexible schemas, and powerful geospatial and aggregation capabilities that support new analytics and revenue streams.
