Case Study: Cisco achieves millisecond response times and scalable real-time social features with MongoDB

A MongoDB Case Study

Preview of the Cisco Case Study

Cisco - Customer Case Study

Cisco, the worldwide networking leader, launched WebEx Social to provide an enterprise collaboration platform but found its relational database unable to support the write-heavy, rapidly evolving social features. Complex SQL queries were slow, horizontal scaling and schema upgrades were difficult, and Cisco needed a secure, enterprise-ready NoSQL solution to handle high-volume activity and analytics.

Cisco adopted MongoDB as the primary real-time datastore for WebEx Social, using its document model, in-place atomic updates, MapReduce analytics, and built-in sharding and replica sets. The switch cut extreme read times from up to 30 seconds to tens of milliseconds, reduced caching needs, improved scalability and availability, and accelerated feature development and adoption across the developer community.
