A MongoDB Case Study
Pearson, the global education company with a mission to reach 1 billion learners, needed a mobile-first, cloud-first platform to serve fast-growing, mobile-centric markets and to deploy across many public and private data centers worldwide. The company also had to build apps that could measure educational efficacy and handle growing volumes of unstructured interaction data to prove and improve learning outcomes.
Pearson consolidated multiple siloed platforms using MongoDB for its agility, scalability and document model, enabling fast reads and ad hoc queries and capture of social and peer-to-peer data. MongoDB now powers identity and access for 120 million user accounts (peaking near 50 million/day), adaptive learning and near‑real‑time analytics, and the Pearson Activity Framework that collects interaction data—together allowing Pearson to measure efficacy and accelerate the pace of learning.
