The German public broadcaster SWR sought to make its news production workflow faster and more agile by migrating to a cloud infrastructure and introducing automated recording and indexing for its live feeds. The challenge involved overcoming bottlenecks and resource allocation issues inherent in their existing system, where journalists needed dedicated slots and physical access to master control rooms. To address this, SWR partnered with vendor Moments Lab and implemented their Live Asset Manager.

The Moments Lab solution involved an AI-powered Cloud Media Hub that ingests SWR's LiveU feeds and applies multimodal AI indexing, including face recognition, OCR, and German speech-to-text transcription. This provided journalists with instant, remote access to content and enabled them to quickly derush interviews and identify highlights. While specific metrics are not provided, the results included a more efficient workflow, with the politics reporters being particularly enthusiastic about the automated transcription feature that significantly boosted their production process.
