Asharq News Partners With Moments Lab to Utilize AI Archiving Technology

Asharq News, a 24/7 multiplatform Arabic news service, faced the challenge of manually tagging and managing its large, bilingual (Arabic/English) volume of media assets. This slow, manual process was ill-suited for its fast-paced news production environment. To solve this, Asharq News partnered with vendor Moments Lab to harness its multimodal AI archiving technology and implement its Cloud Media Hub solution.

Moments Lab provided a solution where thousands of hours of video are uploaded monthly and automatically indexed by Multimodal AI, which applies metadata through OCR, speech-to-text, and facial recognition. This enabled the Asharq News team to search and find specific footage in any language quickly using a semantic search engine. The measurable results include processing 1,600 hours of video monthly, indexing over 32,000 hours of total content, and creating nearly 100,000 custom thesaurus entries. The project was so successful it won an award for Excellence in Media Management.
