The University of Texas Medical Branch sought to identify therapeutic mechanisms to prevent memory loss, specifically by investigating differential phospholipase D expression and its effects. To achieve this, they required a powerful and versatile electrophysiology setup for their studies on brain signaling. They partnered with vendor Molecular Devices to implement a solution.

Molecular Devices provided a solution utilizing their MultiClamp 700B Microelectrode Amplifier, Axon Digidata 1550B Data Acquisition System, and pCLAMP Software Suite. This powerful setup enabled dual recordings to evaluate the signaling mechanisms underlying memory and recall in brain circuitry. The results allowed researchers to analyze synaptic function in key brain regions and evaluate how its disruption forms the basis of pathological memory loss in neurodegenerative states.
