University College London validates hKCC2 assay with Molecular Devices' FLIPR system

The University College London team, led by Professor Andrea Townsend-Nicholson, faced the challenge of needing a high-throughput solution for monitoring calcium mobilization and membrane potential changes in their research to develop personalized medicines. They required a system to investigate cell surface receptors like GPCRs and ion channels to support their work in creating bespoke therapeutics.

Molecular Devices implemented a solution using their FLIPR Tetra High-Throughput Cellular Screening System and SpectraMax i3x Multi-Mode Microplate Reader. These systems were used for calcium signalling, membrane potential assays, and cAMP assays. The results underpinned significant research advances and teaching work, and the team successfully validated the FLIPR Potassium Assay Kit, demonstrating a large assay window and excellent reproducibility for screening modulators of the hKCC2 cotransporter.
