Preview of the Orion Corporation Case Study

Orion Corporation cuts 384-well measurement time to 3–5 minutes with Molecular Devices

Orion Corporation, a pharmaceutical company in Finland, sought to develop new non-opioid pain medications. Their pain research team needed to increase the throughput of their cellular screening assays for GPCRs and ion channels. The vendor, Molecular Devices, provided a solution with their FLIPR Penta High-Throughput Cellular Screening System and ScreenWorks Software.

The solution from Molecular Devices enabled the team to conduct routine screenings and dose-response measurements far more efficiently. The FLIPR Penta's speed allowed them to measure 1-5 plates daily under normal conditions, generating about 70 IC50 values per day, and up to 12 plates or over 2000 compounds daily during library screenings. This high-throughput capability accelerated their identification of promising compounds, making the instrument a central workhorse in their research projects.
