A Modo Labs Case Study
Modo Labs, an MIT spin‑out that powers campus mobile apps for hundreds of institutions, helps colleges solve a common student challenge: getting around when campus shuttles don’t run, parking is limited, or safe after‑hours options are needed. Students juggling classes, jobs and events require reliable, on‑demand transportation and universities need a scalable, integrated way to deliver it.
Modo Campus integrates ride‑share (Uber, planned Lyft), bus tracking (Transloc), car‑ and bike‑share (ZipCar) and payment options into university apps. Results include UCF’s Safe Rides with Uber filling weekend/night route gaps and surpassing ridership of a discontinued bus line while remaining cost‑effective; LSU’s app offering real‑time bus data, carshare reservations and Uber to serve students without cars; and Stanislaus adding Uber with plans for subsidies. The outcome: faster, safer, more flexible campus mobility and measurable increases in usage and student convenience.
