Leveraging student-driven app development

Emerson College partnered with Modo Campus to address a common higher-ed problem: a campus app built mostly by administrators didn’t meet evolving student expectations and suffered from low adoption. Seeking a more relevant, mobile-first experience, Emerson decided to put students at the center of the redesign to ensure the app reflected real student needs.

Emerson hired students to design and build the relaunch on Modo’s no-code platform, partnered across campus (marketing, orientation, campus services), and integrated existing systems like Banner and LaundryView. The result was a transactional, easy-to-navigate app—used for orientation, grades, schedules and campus bookings—that saw improved student engagement, positive feedback for its intuitiveness, and an ongoing, student-driven roadmap of enhancements.
