A Modo Labs Case Study
Georgetown University, a 226‑year‑old institution with ~18,000 students and a global footprint, faced a growing mobile challenge: millennials expect an “anytime, anywhere, any device” experience, and BYOD created pressure to support many users, locations and apps from a single, maintainable system. Before 2012 Georgetown had little mobile presence and needed a way to “liberate” data, improve campus communication, and engage students, faculty and alumni without heavy developer overhead.
Georgetown partnered with Modo Labs and deployed the Kurogo Mobile Platform to build modular, customizable mobile and native apps that integrate campus data (courses, transit, dining, events, library, etc.). Launched in 2012 and expanded with personalized editions and a gamified New Student Orientation, the effort quickly grew to more than 35,000 users, saw 92% adoption among incoming students, cut NSO print run from ~2,000 to 15 copies, and delivered cost, environmental and engagement gains while enabling students and staff to help build and extend the platform.
