Stara Zagora.bg - Customer Case Study

Stara Zagora.bg, the municipal transit authority for Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, faced the challenge of providing an all‑in‑one mobility system after an earlier CAD/AVL/RTPI investment proved incomplete and lacked mobile ticketing. The city engaged Modeshift to pilot a Mobility-as-a-Service approach and introduce mobile ticketing and a unified fare solution to make urban transport easier and more attractive for residents, especially students.

Modeshift implemented its Fare Collection (MaaS) solution, integrating quickly with the existing CAD/AVL/RTPI and deploying new equipment in all vehicles and at bus stops within a few months. The single, account‑based system and new mobile app improved rider satisfaction, simplified operations for staff (no deep IT expertise required), and enabled seamless multi‑modal journeys — a successful integration, in the deputy mayor’s words, that builds on prior investments and streamlines the passenger experience.
