RELX, the global information and analytics company, needed to reduce the cost of operating its remaining mainframe and avoid further spending tied to a Broadcom/CA contract renewal. The company wanted a more flexible, portable way to manage mainframe backup and archive data, and turned to Model9’s Cloud Data Manager for Mainframe.

Model9 helped RELX replace tape and disk management tools, including backup software from Innovation Data Processing, with a software-only solution connected to on-site MinIO object storage. This modernized RELX’s data environment, reduced billable MSU consumption, eliminated expensive proprietary VTL hardware and recurring license costs, and improved performance while giving the company scalable cloud-oriented storage for backup, archive, DR, and analytics.
