America First Credit Union Breaks Down Mainframe Data Silos With Model9 and Cohesity

America First Credit Union, a top-10 U.S. credit union, needed to modernize its mainframe storage strategy as IBM TS7720 virtual tape support neared end of life. The credit union also wanted to reduce reliance on costly virtual tape systems, legacy tape-management tools, and the mainframe skills required to manage them, while lowering mainframe storage-related MSU charges. Model9, working with Cohesity, was selected to help move mainframe data into a unified cloud data-management environment.

Model9 redirected mainframe backup and archive workflows from virtual tape to the Cohesity platform without changing application code or JCL, replacing HSM and RMM and simplifying disaster recovery and retention management. The result was a modernized, vendor-agnostic mainframe data architecture that eliminated expensive VTS hardware, reduced data silos, cut monthly license charges, lowered MSU consumption, and reduced storage footprint through Cohesity deduplication.
