Wireless MOBOTIX Cameras Protect Millenary Church In Liège Against Theft And Vandalism

La Collégiale Saint-Denis, a historic church in Liège, Belgium, faced a challenge protecting its priceless art treasures and preventing theft, vandalism, and indecent behavior in the 24/7 accessible building. The church wardens needed a discreet, non-invasive security solution that would not damage the millenary structure, all under the strict supervision of heritage authorities. To address this, they partnered with vendor Mobotix for a camera system.

Mobotix implemented a wireless solution using eight of its intelligent cameras, networked via power-line carrier technology to avoid visible cabling. The decentralized system included perimeter alarms for vulnerable objects like the altarpiece and facial recognition at entrances. The results were immediate, with the system identifying uncivilized acts shortly after installation and providing a proven dissuading effect on potential offences, all while meeting the stringent requirements for preserving the church's heritage.
