A Mobotix Case Study
Laki Power, a developer of power grid monitoring technology, faced the challenge of helping operators surveil remote overhead power lines. The existing methods of visual inspections and helicopter flyovers were extremely costly and time-consuming, while traditional CCTV equipment was impractical due to the lack of power and inability to withstand harsh, high-voltage environments. Laki Power partnered with vendor MOBOTIX to develop a solution using their S16 and S74 cameras.
The solution was the LKX multi-purpose surveillance station, which uses rugged MOBOTIX cameras to provide real-time video and high-resolution images. The system is powered by induction from the power line itself, eliminating the need for an external power source. MOBOTIX's durable technology was critical to the LKX's performance in extreme conditions. This innovation allows for 24/7 remote monitoring, reducing the need for physical inspections and cutting installation costs by over 90% for power grid operators.
