Improving Airport Passenger Experience with Contactless Temperature Monitoring

Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA) needed an efficient way to ensure passenger safety by screening for elevated temperatures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their previous method of using handheld devices at seven terminal entrances was slow, caused bottlenecks, and the equipment would overheat. To manage high traffic volumes and minimize health risks, IGA sought a contactless solution from vendor Mobotix using their thermal camera technology.

Mobotix implemented seven M16 Thermal TR cameras integrated with its MxManagementCenter. This solution provided accurate, contactless temperature screening that improved passenger flow, eliminated delays caused by manual checks, and increased staff productivity. A key benefit for IGA was the system's future-proofing; the same Mobotix cameras will be repurposed as an early fire warning system, capable of identifying potential fire hazards from long distances in complete darkness.
