Case Study: Kingston-Frontenac Library improves surveillance and reduces theft with Mobotix IP cameras

A Mobotix Case Study

Preview of the Kingston-Frontenac Library Case Study

High-Resolution Security for over 60,000 square feet of Books

The Kingston-Frontenac Library faced a significant security challenge, particularly in its large urban branches, where outdated analog cameras provided blurry, unreliable footage that hampered theft and vandalism investigations. These financial constraints made a comprehensive system upgrade difficult. The vendor, MOBOTIX, was introduced through a security integrator who proposed a cost-effective, phased installation plan to fit the library's budget.

MOBOTIX implemented its high-resolution, hemispheric Q24 cameras, which provide 360-degree coverage and record 30 times more detail than the previous system. This decentralized solution, which includes the free MxControlCenter software, drastically reduced the number of cameras needed and eliminated costs for external storage. The results were immediate, providing police with clear evidence that led to arrests and allowing the library to securely monitor its rare book collection. The library continues to phase in MOBOTIX cameras, achieving greater coverage and reliability while significantly saving money.
