Recurrency Brings Smashburger Customers Back

Smashburger, the national better-burger chain, faced the common QSR challenge of increasing visit frequency and average spend among existing customers. To address this, Smashburger partnered with Mobivity and piloted Mobivity’s re-currency suite—using re-capture to collect basket-level POS data and re-ceipt to turn printed receipts into dynamic offers—to test whether targeted receipt coupons could drive repeat visits and higher spend.

Mobivity rolled the program out across 190 corporate Smashburger locations for a 45-day pilot, printing over 1.2 million coupon-enhanced receipts that drove more than 15,000 redemptions. Customers who redeemed re-ceipt offers returned on average every 8 days (more than seven times as often as non-redeemers), delivering $200,000 in attributable revenue and increasing returning customers’ average ticket by $3.51 (≈21%), leading Smashburger to expand Mobivity’s program to its 330+ U.S. locations.
