How the Kamala Harris campaign turned volunteers into donors and built a grassroots movement

Kamala Harris For The People needed to rapidly build an engaged national grassroots movement in a crowded 2020 primary while keeping costs down. The campaign partnered with Mobilize, embedding Mobilize’s distributed organizing features and the ActBlue integration into its campaign infrastructure to recruit, train, and empower volunteers across states with little or no field staff.

Mobilize’s platform and team-supported trainings enabled a decentralized volunteer network that ran 2,040 volunteer-hosted events (11,699 shifts) with 1,013 volunteer hosts and 7,559 attendees (15% attended multiple events). By using Mobilize’s ActBlue integration, 15% of supporters initiated donations, which offset roughly 50% of social ad costs, lowered cost-per-acquisition for email lists, and reduced no-show rates — delivering measurable scale and fundraising impact for the campaign.
