Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, a 772-bed private, not-for-profit health system serving north Florida and south Georgia, wanted to move physicians from paper and traditional transcription to electronic documentation without slowing clinical workflow. To support the conversion and improve physician productivity, the hospital chose M*Modal and its Fluency Direct real-time speech recognition solution, which could work across Cerner, Allscripts, and athenahealth environments.

M*Modal implemented Fluency Direct with cloud-based recognition, remote servers, Citrix support, and voice profiles for more than 200 users, enabling physicians to dictate, edit, and sign notes at the point of care. The result was a major process improvement: turnaround time dropped from about 30 minutes with transcription to one or two minutes, daily progress notes went electronic, and the hospital reported better documentation quality, improved productivity and accuracy, and potential cost savings of 30-40% when fully implemented.
