Geisinger Health System, a large integrated health services organization serving 2.6 million residents across central and northeast Pennsylvania, wanted to improve physician documentation and EHR adoption in its Epic environment. While some clinicians quickly embraced M*Modal’s Fluency Direct speech recognition, many others were already comfortable documenting directly in Epic with dot phrases and smart templates, making broader adoption a challenge.

To support new physicians and improve documentation workflows, Geisinger implemented M*Modal’s Fluency Direct as a single-sign-on solution that works in its Citrix environment, allowing physicians to document from any location without managing voice profiles. The tool has become an EHR-adoption aid as much as a speech recognition product, with more than 400 users and growing each week, and Geisinger is also working with M*Modal to add Computer-Assisted Physician Documentation (CAPD) to improve accuracy, completeness, coding, and compliance.
