A mLab Case Study
GoldFire Studios, a game development and publishing business focused on massive multiplayer games played via the web, needed a hosted MongoDB provider for CasinoRPG and the GoldFire Network. The company wanted a database that could support a persistent open world, track players and objects in real time, and keep performance high while letting its small team stay focused on building games.
GoldFire Studios chose mLab’s hosted MongoDB database-as-a-service after problems with another provider, and mLab also supported its move from Joyent to AWS without service interruption. With mLab, GoldFire used tools such as Telemetry and Slow Query Analyzer to monitor and optimize performance, and the company said database performance improved. mLab helped GoldFire launch CasinoRPG and the GoldFire Network, grow its user base to a community approaching 400,000, and reduce the workload on its internal team.
