Save The Waves, a global non-profit dedicated to protecting coastlines, faced the challenge of monitoring the health of shores worldwide. They partnered with vendor MJD Interactive to create the Endangered Waves app, a mobile platform designed to empower the global surfing community to crowdsource environmental data.

MJD Interactive developed native iOS and Android apps using Swift and Kotlin, with a Firebase backend, to create an elegant and efficient reporting tool. The solution was a major success; the Endangered Waves app won the XPRIZE-sponsored Big Ocean Button Challenge, beating over 300 competitors for best conservation app. This provided Save The Waves with a powerful new tool to raise awareness, prioritize areas for action, and fill critical data gaps.
