North Down Grain, a Northern Ireland agri‑food distributor operating tankers that collect 130 million litres of milk annually, faced rising fuel costs and challenging rural routes that made fleet efficiency a priority. To monitor driving events (idling, harsh braking, over‑revving and speeding) and reduce fuel consumption, North Down Grain deployed MiX Telematics’ MiX Fleet Manager as their telematics solution.

MiX Telematics combined the MiX Fleet Manager platform with hands‑on consultancy (MiX consultant Dron Kyle worked with Transport Manager Brendan Given) to set fuel targets, build custom reports and coach drivers; after about 18 weeks North Down Grain were running reports independently. The MiX Telematics solution cut driving events, improved average mpg from 5.8 to 6.5 (up to 7 mpg in some cases) and delivered up to 12% savings on the company’s annual fuel bill, while also providing tracking evidence to refute false claims.
