Borg Takes Bold Steps To Improve Driver Safety

Borg Manufacturing, a Somersby-based maker of decorative wood panels and cabinet doors with a 200-vehicle fleet (185 connected), faced high rates of unsafe driving and rollovers across challenging delivery routes while needing to meet Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations and reduce insurance liability. Working with channel partner Airco, they engaged MiX Telematics and deployed MiX Fleet Manager Premium with in-vehicle monitoring (IVMS) and MiX Vision in-cab cameras to get visibility into driver behaviour and vehicle performance.

MiX Telematics’ solution was rolled out starting January 2015 with targeted buzzer alerts, geo-fences and dedicated event monitoring and coaching; within months Borg saw dramatic improvements — green (safe) RAG scores rose from 45% to 99% (six months), red (unsafe) scores fell from 22.49% to 0.11% (seven months) and amber scores dropped from 33.01% to 4.52% (16 months). The MiX Telematics system eliminated rollovers, produced zero major crashes, reduced harsh events and helped Borg lower insurance liability (enabling a move toward self-insurance) while providing actionable data for ongoing coaching and CoR compliance.
