University of Nebraska-Lincoln cuts energy waste by $200,000 with Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) faced the challenge of minimizing its environmental footprint by reducing energy consumption by more than 15 percent across its vast campus. They needed to collect data from over 60,000 sensors and implement a fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) solution to proactively maintain equipment. To meet these goals, they partnered with vendor Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions to implement its GENESIS FDD solution.

Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions provided a solution built on Microsoft technologies that uses IoT and big data to monitor equipment in real time. This allowed UNL to identify and fix faults before they led to equipment failure or energy waste. The results were significant, with the solution detecting an average of 1,100 faults per month, preventing an estimated $200,000 in annual energy waste and helping the university maintain its energy efficiency gains over time.
