A Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions Case Study
The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga, Portugal, is an intergovernmental nanotechnology research center with extensive clean rooms, high‑accuracy labs and over 14,000 I/O points. INL needed a Building Management System that could run 24/7 with no HVAC downtime in critical areas, deliver temperature control to ±0.1°C for high‑accuracy rooms, ensure FDA 21 CFR Part 11–compliant data logging, and integrate heterogeneous PLCs and safety systems. Working with Cofely GDF Suez, they selected Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions’ ICONICS GENESIS32 HMI/SCADA suite.
Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions implemented a GENESIS32‑based integrated BMS that connected B&R, Beckhoff, Siemens, Omron and other controllers via OPC, logged historical data and alarms to SQL, and deployed more than 700 WebHMI screens with 3D graphics and audit trails. The solution gave operators centralized, web‑based control and visualization, maintained the required ±0.1°C accuracy in critical rooms, supported compliance and custom reporting, and—according to Cofely—reduced development time and costs by about 50% while providing scalable future growth.
