A Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions Case Study
Hemi Controls, a Montreal-based systems integrator working with Alstom Canada and Ontario Power, was tasked with modernizing a 240 MW hydroelectric generating station that includes 8 generators and 10 local control stations. To manage thousands of I/O points and integrate 12 Modicon PLCs while providing robust HMI/SCADA, alarm, trend and database access, Hemi Controls selected Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions’ GENESIS32 suite — including GraphWorX32, AlarmWorX32, TrendWorX32 MSDE, ScriptWorX32, OPC DataMining and Modbus OPC.
Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions deployed a centralized GENESIS32 supervision system with local GENESIS32 stations, two large flat panels for operations, and the Unified Tag Browser using the OPC DataMining driver to enable database read/write and remote access. The solution simplified supervision of thousands of points, delivered robust alarming and trending, and improved information access station-wide and remotely; GENESIS32 is also being rolled out to an additional 13 hydroelectric stations (1,266 MW total), demonstrating clear scalability and operational impact.
