A Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions Case Study
Fort Collins Utilities, the electric utility for Fort Collins, Colorado, needed a modern SCADA/HMI platform to support five substations, roughly 2,600 data and control points, ODBC database connectivity, and multiple applications (power quality, security, cameras) while moving communications to TCP/IP over a dedicated GIG Ethernet fiber loop. To meet those goals, Fort Collins selected Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions and its GENESIS32 OPC Web‑enabled HMI/SCADA suite for a standards‑based, vendor‑neutral solution that could be tested before purchase and avoid proprietary drivers.
Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions implemented the GENESIS32 suite to consolidate substation data, controls, security alarms, reference materials and cameras into a single HMI/SCADA system, enable Ethernet/OPC communications and support historian, trending and alarm management. The deployment now supports five substations and ~2,600 points, enforces manual feeder‑level load shedding, provides proactive power‑quality event notifications, eliminated legacy modem links with fiber and UPS protection, and delivered a lower total lifecycle cost compared with prior systems—improving operational control and scalability for future expansion.
