A Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions Case Study
Elsag S.p.A., working with SEA at Milan’s Malpensa Airport, needed a robust HMI/SCADA solution to monitor and control the terminal’s Handling Baggage Security (HBS) and Early Baggage System (EBS), provide accurate trending of baggage processed in defined intervals, and ensure high availability across redundant servers. Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions was selected to deliver this functionality using the ICONICS GENESIS32 HMI/SCADA suite with DataWorX32 (plus AlarmWorX32 and ScriptWorX32) to integrate with Siemens S7-300 PLCs, the airport’s Flight Managing System, Oracle DB8 and existing networks.
Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions implemented a system with two hot‑backup servers and 11 clients, a consolidated main overview interface for operators, secure PLC commands for safe line changes, and OPC connectivity via Applicom cards. The deployment delivered full plant monitoring and remote control, seamless integration with existing systems, easy configuration of displays/alarms/trending, and the ability to switch servers without temporary communication loss — enabling operators to confidently manage baggage flows and improve operational reliability.
