BAA - Customer Case Study

BAA commissioned a fully integrated, intelligent control-room solution for the new Heathrow T5 terminal to monitor HVAC, lighting, fire, elevators, CCTV, security and centralized alarms across a facility designed for 30 million passengers a year. To meet this challenge of consolidating over 50 systems and ensuring future expandability, BAA selected Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions, deploying the ICONICS GENESIS32 OPC web-enabled HMI/SCADA suite as the core of the Building System Integration (BSI).

Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions implemented GENESIS32 using open OPC and IT standards (SQL, OLEDB, XML) with mobile integration, delivering a single user interface, standardized tags/symbols and minimal interfaces. The solution handled a tag-count of over 3 million, gave operators a global view with pan-and-zoom drill-down, sped response to incidents, reduced integration risk, simplified maintenance, and provided the flexibility BAA required for future expansion.
