A Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions Case Study
Attiki Odos Motorway, a modern 60 km, four‑lane motorway around Athens with extensive tunnels, interchanges and safety systems, needed a centralized, reliable SCADA solution to monitor lighting, ventilation, air quality, emergency fire panels, power distribution and pumps—on a tight schedule ahead of the 2004 Olympics. Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions was selected to provide a GENESIS32‑based HMI/SCADA implementation along with AlarmWorX32 and OPC ToolWorX to meet the motorway’s control and monitoring requirements.
Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions deployed redundant GENESIS32 servers integrated with Opto22 controllers (via a multithreaded OPC server developed with ICONICS tools), supporting over 25,000 I/O points with system response under two seconds. The solution centralized real‑time monitoring and alarm management, improved operator situational awareness and emergency response, ensured continuous control of ventilation, lighting and power systems, and delivered the reliability and performance needed to open the motorway on time for the Olympics.
