A Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions Case Study
ABB Foundry Group in New Berlin, WI needed a fast-to-market MMI/SCADA/MES solution for its eMelt foundry product to monitor and control melting furnaces, handle connectivity to thermocouples, spectrometers and multiple PLCs, and run from a single Windows server. Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions was chosen for its GENESIS32-based software (GraphWorX32, AlarmWorX32, TrendWorX32) because of ease of creating graphics, OPC open architecture, small footprint and strong Microsoft integration.
Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions implemented a GENESIS32 Enterprise single-node eMelt system that interfaces DICO-connected sensors to GENESIS32 and communicates via OPC to Modicon, PLC5 and ControlLogix controllers, supporting about 300 I/O points per melting station and up to four furnaces. The solution delivered real-time graphics, alarm management, trending and ADO/Access data logging, enabling ABB to bring eMelt to market quickly and cost-effectively as a configurable, global foundry offering within ABB’s Industrial IT family.
