A Mitratech Case Study
Aberdeen Asset Management, a major London‑listed asset manager operating in 25 countries, acquired SWIP from Lloyds Banking Group in 2014 and faced two linked challenges: disentangling SWIP’s processes and data from Lloyds (including market data feeds and system linkages) and upgrading a vast end‑user computing (EUC) estate from Excel/Office 2003 to 2010, where many complex spreadsheets used deprecated functions and VBA. The scale and interconnection of the spreadsheets made manual discovery and migration impractical and error‑prone.
SWIP deployed ClusterSeven to scan and inventory the EUC landscape, using Discovery to identify complex files and custom rules to flag those needing remediation and Spider to map data lineage and dependencies. The project remediated and migrated 1,500 spreadsheets, converted functions and VBA, re‑linked external data to Aberdeen systems, and completed the transition with minimal business disruption—dramatically reducing manual effort and providing assurance for the M&A integration.
