Effectively Utilizing the Lawtrac Self-service Portal

The American Bar Association (ABA), a large professional organization with its headquarters in Chicago, faced rising contract volume—more than 6,500 matters annually—and was relying on a decade-old Access database that required manual, line-by-line entry, was hard to search, and gave the legal department little visibility into workload, turnaround times, or organization-wide compliance. With a small in-house legal team and tight non-profit budgets, the ABA needed a centralized, easy-to-use matter management solution that could share data-entry responsibility with business partners and support a paperless, process-compliant environment.

In July 2013 the ABA implemented Mitratech’s Lawtrac and its Self-Service portal, rolling it out with targeted trainings and Outlook integration to boost adoption across 250+ business users. Lawtrac centralized all contracts and templates, enabled business users to submit and monitor matters, streamlined collaboration, and produced actionable reports for workload and budget planning. The result was faster status visibility, reduced email burden on the legal team, easier reassignment and retrieval of matters, improved resource planning, and the retirement of the old Access database.
