Pro Bono Net - Customer Case Study

Pro Bono Net is a nonprofit that expands access to justice for low-income and vulnerable populations through sites like LawHelp.org and Probono.net. Facing lengthy, error-prone paper forms and tedious manual document creation that exhausted clients and diverted attention from legal issues, Pro Bono Net evaluated options and selected Mitratech HotDocs (using HotDocs Server) as the assembly engine for a web-based document automation system.

Using Mitratech HotDocs’ HotDocs Server, Pro Bono Net launched National Public Automated Documents Online (now LawHelp Interactive) with a custom web front end and a Flash-based interface for less tech‑savvy users; attorneys build interviews and templates across dozens of legal areas. The solution produced measurable gains — over 147,000 forms assembled in 2009 (a 32% increase from 2008), more than 700,000 interviews and 400,000+ documents cumulatively, 350+ attorney templates and 330+ self‑help templates, availability in 30 states, and reported time savings in self‑help clinics of up to 50% — demonstrating Mitratech HotDocs’ impact on speeding document production and improving access to justice.
