LawHawk launched in June 2016 when managing director Gene Turner set out to make document automation available as a service for New Zealand lawyers. After struggling with a slow, developer-dependent template process, LawHawk chose Mitratech HotDocs—using HotDocs Developer and HotDocs Cloud Services—to enable lawyers to build, test and deliver complex templates themselves and offer automation as a managed service.

Using Mitratech HotDocs (with local partner Midware and support from HotDocs resources), LawHawk built an online legal document generation service and integrated it with the LawVu matter management system. The result is a fully managed offering that lets firms produce more complex documents more quickly and with fewer resources, with LawHawk spending its first year building a library of up-to-date templates and delivering custom automations (including combined documents with multiple outputs) to clients.
