As Compute Resource Usage Soars, Storyblocks Partners With Mission To Reduce AWS Costs Using Reserved Instances

Storyblocks partnered with Mission to address rising AWS costs as its compute usage grew rapidly alongside aggressive business expansion. To avoid adding strain to internal IT resources, Storyblocks engaged Mission Cloud Foundation and Reserved Instance Optimization (RIO) services to improve cloud cost efficiency.

Mission provided a dedicated FinOps Cloud Analyst and capital support for AWS reserved instance purchases, while also advising on when to use Reserved Instances versus Savings Plans. With Mission’s help, Storyblocks reduced monthly AWS costs by 7% on average even as compute usage increased 33%, delivering monthly savings of about $20K on EC2, $25K on S3, and $1,400 on Redshift.
