A MirrorWeb Case Study
The Bank of England, a key UK government institution, needed to preserve its digital heritage and make government web content accessible and reliable for future research. MirrorWeb was awarded the contract to manage the UK Government Web Archive and to deliver a cloud-based digital archiving service that would capture websites and social media, improve performance, add powerful search, and increase overall speed and reliability.
MirrorWeb built and launched the UKGWA and Bank of England web archive in 2017, capturing the Bank’s website back to 2004 and delivering a searchable archive of over 2,000 websites and billions of documents (more than 150TB). The solution uses AWS S3 across multiple availability zones with a 99.999999999% uptime SLA, Elasticsearch indexing, encryption in transit and at rest, and ISO9001/ISO27001 certifications—resulting in faster, more reliable access for historians, researchers and the public.
