Case Study: Volkswagen Group achieves faster application delivery and lower IT costs with Mirantis OpenStack Cloud

A Mirantis Case Study

Preview of the Volkswagen Group Case Study

Volkswagen Group Deploys Mirantis OpenStack Cloud to Drive IT Agility and Business Innovation

Volkswagen Group, one of the world’s largest automakers with hundreds of thousands of employees and dozens of global brands, faced a fragmented, resource-intensive IT landscape that hindered agile development of new digital services. The company needed to standardize and automate infrastructure, accelerate application delivery, meet strict data-residency and privacy requirements, and lower operating costs across brands, divisions and global sites.

Volkswagen selected Mirantis OpenStack as its standardized private cloud, deploying an Intel x86/KVM/Ceph-based platform in Wolfsburg and rolling out CI/CD, container and PaaS (Cloud Foundry) capabilities. The new Group IT Cloud cut provisioning time from months to minutes, onboarded hundreds of tenants and developers, enabled faster delivery of applications (including a car configurator and big-data workloads), reduced infrastructure costs, and set the stage for hybrid expansion across regions.
