Cornell University Accelerates Cloud Migration

Cornell University needed to move a heavily customized, legacy Confluence installation to the cloud while reducing the ongoing burden of manual maintenance, frequent restarts, and slow upgrades. The environment was old, hand-maintained, and tightly integrated with SSO and LDAP, making the migration and modernization effort complex. Mirantis was involved through its Docker Enterprise platform to help Cornell modernize this vendor application.

Mirantis helped Cornell Dockerize Confluence and migrate it to the cloud, enabling faster deployments, better resilience, and simpler operations. The project cut staff support time from 1,770 hours to 178 hours in six months, accelerated app deployment and upgrades, eliminated restart issues, improved high availability and disaster recovery, and reduced annual operating costs by $2,100. Cornell also gained the ability to recover Confluence in another region within 30 minutes, with quarterly upgrades now taking weeks instead of months.
