Humanities North Dakota - Customer Case Study

Humanities North Dakota, a nonprofit that has offered affordable lifelong learning since 1973, faced the challenge of replacing paper ledgers and later a legacy MS-DOS accounting setup to manage large, multi-year National Endowment for the Humanities grants, multiple restricted funding sources, and dollar-for-dollar cost‑share requirements. On an auditor’s recommendation the organization adopted MIP Fund Accounting in 1985 and needed a system that could handle complex fund tracking, reliable budgeting, and clear reporting for funders.

Over more than 30 years MIP Fund Accounting has enabled Humanities North Dakota to track unlimited funds, compare budget-to-actuals, produce single-foundation and program-wide reports, and manage cost-share requirements through a dedicated fund. The organization is now migrating to MIP Cloud and adopting MIP’s Payroll Module to allow multi-user remote access and eliminate spreadsheet payroll processing—improving financial visibility, grant compliance, and reporting efficiency with a proven MIP solution.
