The city of Savannah, GA faced significant delays for emergency response vehicles along its DeRenne Avenue corridor due to dense traffic and a complex urban landscape. Their conventional traffic preemption systems were ineffective, prompting a search for a more robust solution from vendor Miovision Technologies.

Miovision implemented its Opticom GPS Emergency Vehicle Preemption system, which enabled traffic signal preemption from long distances. This solution significantly improved response times, saving emergency vehicles an average of 5 to 7 minutes per trip. Due to its success and strong community support, the Miovision system was expanded to 73 intersections to benefit police, fire, and ambulance services.
