A Miovision Technologies Case Study
McElhanney, an employee‑owned Canadian engineering and planning firm, was hired to support a medium‑sized city’s Active Transportation Plan (ATP). The city needed a reliable multimodal baseline—accurate counts of pedestrians, cyclists and micromobility users—across 82 dispersed sites to inform investment priorities. Traditional surveys and manual counts were too slow, costly and imprecise, and the project faced a narrow seasonal window, equipment and logistics constraints, and public privacy and safety concerns.
McElhanney deployed 20 Miovision Scout video collection units and used Miovision DataLink for automated video processing, following strict field checklists, remote monitoring, and privacy guidelines. Using a 3‑day weekday collection at each site, the team gathered over 6,000 hours of video, processed 72‑hour weekday windows, and delivered precise, auditable multimodal counts plus GIS and database‑ready files and Phase‑2 recommendations. The program was completed on schedule and within budget, giving the city a robust data foundation for its ATP.
